# Managing connected assistants

> Approve what an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT may do in your Hiresweep account, and disconnect it when you are done.

When you connect Hiresweep to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT over MCP, you choose what the assistant may do. **Connected assistants** lists every assistant you approved, with the permissions you gave it, and lets you disconnect any of them.

To connect an assistant in the first place, see [Using the MCP server](https://docs.hiresweep.com/guides/using-the-mcp-server).

## Approve an assistant

When an assistant connects, Hiresweep opens an approval page in your browser that names the assistant and says it wants to use your Hiresweep account. If you aren't signed in, you sign in first.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check the account">
    The page shows which account you are signed in as. If it's the wrong one, sign out and connect again.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the permissions">
    Under **Permissions**, tick what the assistant may do:

    | Permission                  | What it allows                                                                                      |
    | --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
    | **Read your resumes** | See your resumes, their tags, saved analyses and view counts, and download them as PDF. |
    | **Create and edit resumes** | Create, import, duplicate, edit, rename, lock and unlock resumes, and make them public or private. |
    | **Delete resumes** | Permanently delete resumes and their files. |
    | **Read your job tracker** | See the jobs you track, their status, notes and match scores, and the jobs Job Discovery found. |
    | **Update your job tracker** | Add jobs from a link, move them through your pipeline and change their notes. |
    | **Run job searches** | Draft and start Job Discovery searches. Each search uses your plan's search allowance. |
    | **Apply to jobs for you** | Fill and submit application forms. Each application spends a credit and, once sent, can't be recalled. |

    The page only lists the permissions the assistant asked for. Permissions marked **Spends credits** or **Can't be
    undone** start unticked, so you opt into each one yourself.

    Under **It will also be able to**, the page lists account details the assistant gets with any connection, such as
    **Know who you are** or **Stay connected**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Allow or Deny">
    **Allow** connects the assistant with the permissions you ticked and returns you to it. **Deny** sends it back
    without access.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The assistant only sees the tools its permissions cover. If it tries something you didn't allow, it gets an error naming the missing permission. To give it more, connect again from the assistant: the approval page opens again for the new permissions. A later request for permissions you already gave doesn't ask again.

## See your connected assistants

Open **Settings** and select **Connected assistants** under **Developers**. Each assistant shows its name, the date you connected it and a chip for each permission you gave it. Permissions that spend credits or can't be undone are highlighted.

API keys aren't listed here. A key always has full access to your account; manage keys in [Settings → Developers → API keys](https://docs.hiresweep.com/guides/using-the-api).

## Disconnect an assistant

<Steps>
  <Step title="Select Disconnect">
    In **Connected assistants**, select **Disconnect** next to the assistant.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Select **Disconnect** again in the confirmation.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The assistant loses access to your account right away. To use it again, connect it from the assistant and approve it again.
