# Exporting and sharing resumes

> When to send a PDF, a Word file or a public link to your Hiresweep resume, and where each one lives in the builder.

Hiresweep gives you two ways to get a resume to someone: a file you download, or a public link to a page that always shows your latest version. Both start from the header above the canvas in the builder.

## Send a file

Select **Export** and choose a format:

| Choose | When |
| --- | --- |
| **Download PDF** | Most applications and emails. The layout is fixed and matches the preview. |
| **Download DOCX** | A form asks for a Word file, or someone wants to edit the resume in Word or Google Docs. |
| **Download JSON** | You want a backup you can import again, or the data for another tool. |

A file doesn't change after you send it, which suits applications where you need a record of what you submitted.

See [Exporting your resume](https://docs.hiresweep.com/guides/exporting-your-resume).

## Share a link

Select **Share** and turn on **Public link**, then **Copy** the link. Anyone with it can view the resume and download a PDF, without an account. Edits you make later show up on the page right away.

- Add a password with **Add a password** when only certain people should see it.
- Check **Design** > **Statistics** to see how often the page was viewed and downloaded.
- Public pages aren't indexed by search engines.

See [Sharing your resume publicly](https://docs.hiresweep.com/guides/sharing-your-resume-publicly).

## Which to use

| Situation | Use |
| --- | --- |
| The application form asks for an upload | PDF, or DOCX if it asks for Word |
| A recruiter asked for "your resume" by email | PDF, with the link in your signature if you like |
| LinkedIn, your website or an email signature | The public link |
| You want to know whether someone opened it | The public link, then **Statistics** |
| Only a few people should see it | The public link with a password |

Don't rely on a link alone when a form requires a file.
